Mitochondrial dysfunctions and neurodegenerative diseases: a mini-review

چکیده

Mitochondrial dysfunction is estimated to be the primary reason involved in different types of neurodegenerative disorders as mitochondria suggested important production reactive oxygen species. Recently, several evidences have emerged out for impaired mitochondrial structures and functions viz. shape, size, fission-fusion, distribution, movement etc. diseases especially with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease Huntington’s disease. Therefore, apart from looking on whole, a detailed understanding functioning their role degeneration would pave new options therapy age-related diseases.

Mitochondrial Dysfunctions in Neurodegenerative Diseases: Relevance to Alzheimer's Disease

Mitochondrial dysfunctions are supposed to be responsible for many neurodegenerative diseases dominating in Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and Huntington's disease (HD). A growing body of evidence suggests that defects in mitochondrial metabolism and particularly of electron transport chain may play a role in pathogenesis of AD. Structurally and functionally damaged mitocho...

Mitochondrial ferritin in neurodegenerative diseases

Mitochondrial ferritin (FtMt) is a novel protein encoded by an intronless gene mapped to chromosome 5q23.1. Ferritin is ubiquitously expressed; however, FtMt expression is restricted to specific tissues such as the testis and the brain. The distribution pattern of FtMt suggests a functional role for this protein in the brain; however, data concerning the roles of FtMt in neurodegenerative disea...

Mitochondrial dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases.

Neurodegenerative diseases are a large group of disabling disorders of the nervous system, characterized by the relative selective death of neuronal subtypes. In most cases, there is overwhelming evidence of impaired mitochondrial function as a causative factor in these diseases. More recently, evidence has emerged for impaired mitochondrial dynamics (shape, size, fission-fusion, distribution, ...

Endocrine dysfunctions in patients with mitochondrial diseases

Aims Mitochondrial diseases are a heterogeneous group of genetic disorders that result from dysfunction of the respiratory chain. The endocrine disorders such as diabetes mellitus, hypoparathyroidism, hypothyroidism and growth hormone deficiency have been described in patients with mitochondrial DNA mutations. Among these, patients with Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stro...
